8.0.4 UPDATE

Note: Make sure that your enclosure for this mob is completely secure with no gaps. It will almost certainly fly away otherwise.

Meganeura ('meg-ah-nure-ah', meaning “Large Veins/Nerves”, often just called 'the giant dragonfly') is a flying prehistoric insect from the Carboniferous Period that resembles a huge dragonfly. It was added in Build 8.0.0, alongside the four other “mega” mobs. Currently, it is the only insect in the mod, and one of three mobs in the mod capable of flight, the other two being confuciusornis and pteranodon. It is also cathemeral, meaning it is active throughout day and night. The Meganeura 4 Minecraft day grows enough to no longer be a larva and will be fully grown in 9 Minecraft days.. They can be given the Chicken Essence to grow faster at the cost of hunger.

Nymph (baby) meganeura are unique in that they are one of the only mobs that have a detailed life cycle. The nymphs can only live in water and are placed like an aquatic animal.

Similarly to Arthropleura and Megalograptus, Meganeura is affected by weapons enchanted with Bane of Arthropods.

TAMING

Meganeura, much like Tiktaalik, is not tamed on hatching but needs to be tamed by giving it meat or using a whip on it.

BEHAVIOR

Due to the small size of the meganeura, it can even fit in a block of gaps. Meganeura will occasionally land on the side of blocks so make sure the enclosure is large enough to place trees, trees that would be paleoaccurate include the calamites.

It attacks the:

Diplocaulus

the enemies of the nimfa:

Megalograptus

Diplocaulus

Tiktaalik

Meganeura like almost all other mobs, has a mood that can drop or be raised through various means. Having a low mood means it may attack or avoid you, having a high mood will make it passive. Right-click it with a Dinopedia to see its current mood.

Meganeura will interact with toy balls, tethered logs and Scratching Post when they see them. They increase your mood.

FEEDING

Meganeura is a carnivore so they need to eat meat with the exception to rotten flesh. The Meganeura can eat from feeders.
