Unique bones are items that can be obtained from mining a Fossil block or by killing prehistoric creatures. Almost every species has a unique drop.

7.2 UPDATE

In this update, coelacanth, nautilus, all birds, and all mammals were lacking unique drops. These unique bones did not have any use, they do not craft anything, does not make bonemeal, and does not create DNA.

7.3 UPDATE

Birds and mammals have gotten unique bones, but the coelacanth, sturgeon, alligator gar, and nautilus still do not have any. They can now be analyzed to get DNA, but still does not craft or make bonemeal.
